About Rachael
If you look at the research, women are not treated equally in medicine. Their pain is not treated equally, their heart attacks are diagnosed later, so we're basically swimming upstream just going into an ER or an urgent care or a regular clinic. The time factor is one of the most frustrating barriers for health care. They try to get everything taken care of, but you've only got 10 minutes to explain what you're feeling and how you're taking care of your body.
The goal of Herself Health is to provide excellent care while taking time to be with the patient. When we see patients in the clinic, I want to be an objective resource. As a physician assistant, I'm kind of like a home base for health. There are lots of specialists, you hear lots of advice from friends and family members, and when you can take that all back to one person and say, 'okay, tell me what you think, put the pieces together for me,' that is incredibly valuable. I am there to take stock of the whole person, physically and mentally, and say 'okay, this is where we're at, and these are our goals.' This is not a fast process, so taking time to get to know patients and what they've gone through is a priority. I look forward to connecting with my patients through shared experiences—there are things about being a woman in this world that are complicated and we can look out for each other.
